The 11th Symposium on Humanitarian Demining took place in Zadar, Croatia, from the 23rd to the 25th of April 2014. The event was attended by participants from 32 different countries and was organised by the Centre for Testing, Development and Training, the Croatian Mine Action Centre and the Office for Mine Action of the Croatian Government. The purpose of the conference is to provide a forum for participants to discover the latest technological developments for demining operations and to discuss the current issues affecting the Mine Action community.

Mrs. Dijana PleŇ°tina, Director of the Croatian Government Office for Mine Action opened the event with an introductory speech, followed by a welcome address from Nenad Stazi?, Deputy Speaker of the Croatian Parliament and Zoran Milanovi?, the Croatian Prime Minister. Several presentations on key issues such as Mine Contamination in an international context and Demining and Humanitarian Conventions were then delivered.

A number of tools developed in the frame of the TIRAMISU project were showcased at the event, including tEODOR, a robotic system with Vallon detectors used for Explosive Ordnance Disposal (RMA), a System for Hyperspectral Side Looking Survey from Ground Vehicle (CROMAC-CTDT/FGUNIZ), and a System for Hyperspectral Aerial Survey from Multi-Rotor Unmanned Aerial Vehicle, both of which are used to check an area for explosive devices.

The Belgian Ambassador to the Republic of Croatia, Mrs Rossignol, visited the TIRAMISU stand and congratulated the team, showing her support for the future exploitation of TIRAMISU tools in the demining initiatives in the country.
